The plan is to build a few upper and some lower cabinets in the basement to store everything. The idea on this build is to be very inexpensive so the plan is to build the cabinets out of OSB and then face frame it in #2 pine. everything will be built as one single unit rather than screwing together individual units. This should be more economical and faster.
Once the cabinets are built in place, I plan to take my time constructing the front doors so it looks nice. As a guide for adjustable shelving, I plan to use some pegboard and a drill to get the spacing correct and uniform. The hardest part of the whole project will be the drawers, but we can show you a way to cheat on that part if you would like.
We put a couple more hours working on the cabinets. We were able to mount the drawers with sliders from eBay. All that is left to finish is the shelves and drawer fronts. If the drawers are too intimidating to tackle, you can always purchase them at a place like
The countertop we were able to purchase came in two pieces. Make sure to level the top. Right now, they are just sitting up there to get them off of the floor. Before you get too far, think of any electrical or lighting that could be done.
Another few hours and some drying time for the glue and it is complete. There is a right amount of time in completing this project, but we saved a significant amount of money and had exactly what we want. The final design is slightly different from the plan above, as the changes were made on the fly to make the cabinets more useful.
