When you've answered those questions, you will start in the general direction of knowing what you have to look for when shopping for your furniture, furnishings, and accessories.
Now it is time to get your décor going really. You are looking for furniture designs and style, overall room theme and matching or blending color schemes. And you choose your furniture and decorations according to these.
This is all based on personal preference, and there really is no right or wrong. But what matters is that your individual pieces of furniture and furnishings mesh well together because this is necessarily your living room décor.
When decorating a living room you are really looking for a combination of function, comfort and aesthetic appeal, and the ideal would be to have the individual pieces in your room match or blend well with each other so that there is a nice easy-on-the-eyes but relaxing-on-the-senses ambiance to the room.
You want the furniture not only to be comfortable but to be placed in the living room in such a way as to get maximum comfort and appeal out of it and the same goes for all your furnishings and accessories. Remember that it's not how much you have in a room, it's how much the room accentuates what you have.
